Abū Hurayrah reported Allah's Messenger
(may peace be upon him) as saying,

The truest word spoken by an Arab (pre-Islamic) in poetry is this verse of Labid : “Behold! apart from Allah everything is vain. “

(Sahíh Al-Bukhāry)

One of the beloved customs of Muslims is to gather and to sing a poem of the life story of Prophet Muhammad , thereby commemorating his life and increasing our love for him.

Most denominations of ‘Islām approve of doing so and our great scholar Habib ‘Umar Bin Hafidz mentions a number of intentions we can do before joining he mawlid, such as: Remembering Allāh and his messenger and asking Allāh that He guides us to the path of his beloved, Prophet Muhammad .

These gatherings brings together families, young and elderly, all coming together for the sake of Allāh and his messenger and making sincere du’a for the ummah. Often these gatherings ends with sharing a meal together, another sunnah that was highly recommended by our Prophet Muhammad .

Mawlid

Mawlid or Mawlid al-Nabi al-Sharif in Arabic is : مَولِد النَّبِي‎ mawlidu n-nabiyyi, “Birth of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ” is commemorated in Rabi’ al-awwal. Most denominations of Islam approve of the commemoration of Muhammad’s ﷺ birthday. Mawlid is recognized as a national holiday in most Muslim-majority countries of the world.
