A biosand filter (BSF) is a point-of-use water treatment system adapted from traditional slow land filters. It removes pathogens and suspended solids from water, heavy metals, turbidity, bacteria, viruses and protozoa. Subsequently reducing discoloration, odor and unpleasant taste. More importantly, it decreases the occurrence of diarrhea in the people.
Maintaining its operations under the banner of sustainability and permanentness, EMF launched its first Biosand Filter Project in Philippines. Biosand filter removes up to 99% of the water-borne, disease causing pathogens and serves drinkable water.
These maintenance-free filters can run for years and solve water crisis. In EMF’s first biosand filter operation, 60 filters were distributed to the locals of Zamboanga, the Philippines. This campaign encompasses the regions that have difficulty in refining water during the rainy season due to financial and physical constraints. Our aim is to expand the campaign from the Philippines, Cambodia, to the whole of Southeast Asia.
